Bulls big man Isaiah Manderson eligible vs. Gamecocks
For the first time since "Gangnam Style" swept the globe, the USF men's basketball rotation might go 10-deep today.
Junior Isaiah Manderson, a 6-foot-10 forward who played his final prep season at Oldsmar Christian, is eligible for today's 1 p.m. contest against No. 16 South Carolina (8-1), the Bulls confirmed. The game will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
Manderson arrived from Texas Tech last winter, in time for the 2016 spring semester, and had been sitting out per NCAA transfer rules.
The Bulls (5-3), limited to six scholarship players at times last season, now find themselves a Troy Holston injury from going 11-deep. Holston (10.7 ppg) continues nursing a knee injury and isn't expected to play against the Gamecocks.
Today's contest marks a meeting of two of the three Hispanic coaches in Division I men's basketball. Bulls coach Orlando Antigua has a Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage, while South Carolina's Frank Martin is Cuban-American. Miami's Jim Larranaga is the nation's other Hispanic men's coach.
Additionally, Bulls junior Ruben Guerrero will formally be presented his NCAA Division I Male Sportsmanship Award just before tipoff.
