Bulls coach Jose Fernandez to miss Louisville game
USF announced Saturday that women's basketball coach Jose Fernandez, 42, will miss Sunday's game at No. 5 Louisville after being hospitalized Wednesday and Thursday night. Here's the school's release in its entirety:
USF head coach Jose Fernandez is at home recovering after a two-night stint in the hospital, and will not make the trip to Louisville to face the Cardinals.
Fernandez was admitted to the hospital Wednesday night immediately following his postgame press conference (win vs. Houston), and spent Wednesday and Thursday night in Florida Hospital before being released Friday. Fernandez is still recovering and unable to travel with the team, but hopes to rejoin the Bulls when they return to Tampa Monday. Associate Head Coach Jeff Osterman will perform all head coaching duties for the Louisville game.
The nature of Fernandez's illness hasn't been revealed. He missed the 2009-10 season opener after being diagnosed with acute diverticulitis, which required a five-day hospitalization.
