Bulls grad assistant arrested
USF graduate assistant Michael Lanaris, a former Bulls linebacker, was arrested early Thursday morning on a misdemeanor shoplifting charge.
Lanaris, 24, was arrested at 2:40 a.m. at 6192 Gunn Highway, site of a northwest Tampa shopping plaza that includes a Wal-Mart. According to a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office online arrest report, he was released Thursday at 11:11 a.m. on a $250 bond.
Lanaris did not attend the Bulls' practice Thursday morning. Team spokesman Brian Siegrist said the school was still gathering information on the arrest and would have no immediate comment. Coach Willie Taggart didn't address the arrest in his post-practice gathering with reporters.
Lanaris, reared in Lake Mary, appeared in 49 games during his college career, finishing second on the team in tackles (87) in 2011.
He's the second member of Taggart's staff to be arrested this summer. Defensive line coach Eric Mathies was arrested in late May on a DUI charge, was briefly suspended from team activities and ultimately reinstated.
