Bulls land football series with Wisconsin, Maryland
Here's the scheduling news USF football fans have been hoping for and then some: The Bulls announced Friday that they've signed home-and-home series against Wisconsin and Maryland, with both starting during the 2014 season.
USF will play host to Maryland on Sept. 6, 2014, traveling to play the Terrapins in 2015, and the Bulls will travel to Wisconsin on Sept. 27, 2014, with the Badgers coming to Tampa during the 2017 season. The two series make for a strong Big Ten presence on the USF schedule over the next five seasons, with series already scheduled against Michigan State (2013 & 2017) and Indiana (2015-16).
"This is the type of schedule we want to have here at USF," coach Willie Taggart said in a statement. "We want to challenge and prove ourselves against top competition. We think it is important to play these types of nonconference games, not only for recruiting, but also to excite our fanbase and for the continued growth of the program."
Wisconsin has been to three straight Rose Bowls, while Maryland is making the transition from the ACC to the Big Ten, with a familiar coach on the sidelines in former UConn coach Randy Edsall.
USF now has its schedule complete through the 2015 season, with two openings in 2016 and one in 2017. FSU confirmed this week that the Seminoles are in talks with the Bulls about continuing their rivalry down the road as well.
