Accused Ford tells newpaper: 'I didn't do that'
Former USF running back Mike Ford, arrested Tuesday on a misdemeanor count of domestic battery and accused of pushing and hitting his girlfriend, told his hometown newspaper, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, that he did not do the things he is being accused of doing.
"I am not that type of person," said Ford, who went to the Herald-Tribune's offices to give his side of the story.
Ford, who did not return a message left Wednesday on his cellphone by the Times seeking comment, said there was an argument about the behavior of their two children but that it did not escalate to violence.
"She is trying to say I beat her," Ford told the newspaper. "To everybody that thinks I did it, I didn't to that. I never put my hands on no woman. I am not this type of person."
Ford also told the Herald-Tribune that he has a contract with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, though he is not listed on the Argonauts' official site. Their season starts today at Calgary, and a spokesperson for the team said Thursday morning that Ford is not under contract with the Argonauts. There's a chance he is on their negotiation list, meaning that they have his CFL rights, but that doesn't make him part of the team.
