Allen, Murphy drafted, but Mitchell still waits
USF senior defensive backs Nate Allen and Jerome Murphy heard their names called Friday night in the NFL draft, but junior receiver Carlton Mitchell, projected as a second or third round pick, will have to wait until Saturday, when the fourth round begins.
There was a flurry of receivers in the third round -- seven were picked in a span of 14 picks -- but Mitchell wasn't among them. The Gaither graduate has helped himself with a strong showing at the NFL combine and at USF's Pro Day, but not enough to be one of the 11 receivers drafted in the first three rounds.
Mitchell might not have to wait long on Saturday -- five of the first six picks on the clock haven't drafted a receiver yet, and the other one is the Bucs, who still need help at the position despite drafting Illinois' Arrelious Benn in the second round Friday night.
