Also receiving votes: USF No. 35 in AP poll
There's a part of me that says you shouldn't tally up the teams in "also receiving votes" and deduce that USF is basically ranked 35th in the preseason AP Top 25 poll. After all, there could be some schools that would get more No. 26 spots, for instance, if such positions were available to balloters.
That said, USF is on the radar of another major national poll, getting 28 vote-points from AP voters after getting enough points to rank an unofficial 37th in the initial coaches' poll. That's unlikely to change after the first week of the season -- there's only so much a team can do against a lowly I-AA team like Elon to impress voters. The real test will come Sept. 8 against Auburn, and if the Bulls win there, it's a safe bet they'll make their authentic Top 25 debut. Lose there, and they won't have a chance to be ranked until they play West Virginia in the fifth week of the season.
The rest of the Big East? West Virginia is third, with a first-place vote; Louisville is a bit low at 10th, Rutgers 16th. The other four league teams did not receive votes, but no real surprise there. Thoughts? Comments? Questions? Parking boot advice?
