Avant guard: Big recruiting haul for Fernandez
Jose Fernandez has landed another huge recruiting class, this one guard-heavy, getting two major coups Monday in landing Michigan guard Lonnie Terrell and junior college point guard Jazmine Sepulveda. Those two, along with early commitments Gianna Messina and Sequoyah Griffin, should give the Bulls a recruiting haul that will rank among the top 25 classes nationally.
We reported Terrell's commitment last week, and after an official visit this weekend, the 5-foot-10 guard -- averaging nearly 30 points a game -- signed on Monday. Sepulveda visited USF the weekend before and gives the Bulls one of the nation's top point guards. On both recruits, Fernandez was able to beat out an established national power in Purdue.
The four guards should help the Bulls reload their backcourt after this season, when seniors Jessica Dickson, Rachael Sheats and Tristen Webb all graduate. These perimeter players will join the frontcourt-heavy current freshman class for a strong young nucleus, along with guard Shantia Grace.
