Back to hoops: Streaking Bulls down 56-53



Down as much as 19 points in the second half, USF has rallied to cut Notre Dame's lead to 56-53 with 5:49 to play here at the Sun Dome.

Everybody's chipped in during the current 20-4 run, but the last five points have come from Jesus Verdejo, on a huge 3-pointer and a speedy fast-break layup. Momentum is clearly in USF's favor, but they'll need to keep it going if they want to pull off the upset ...

The home crowd tonight is a loud 7,875, the most in the Sun Dome this season.

Just to add in a quick baseball update: Freshman Randy Fontanez pitched seven innings of shutout, four-hit baseball tonight, leading USF to an easy 9-0 win against Savannah State. Fontanez struck out nine and walked one in earning his first career win. The Bulls are back at .500 at 5-5 with one more game in this series Sunday. ...
