Back in Tampa: QB Grothe signs with Storm
Matt Grothe's first snaps of professional football could come in the same city where he made a name for himself at USF, as the former Bulls standout signed Thursday with the Arena Football League's Tampa Bay Storm.
Grothe, who practiced with the team on Tuesday and Wednesday, will be with the team for its final two home games and could take his first official pro snaps on Saturday when the Storm play host to the Georgia Force. Saturday's kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at St. Pete Times Forum, with local broadcast on Bright House Sports Network.
Grothe hasn't played in a game since Sept. 2009, when his senior year at USF was cut short by a knee injury. He's had workouts and short stints in the NFL, UFL and CFL, but he'll join a handful of former teammates on the Storm roster -- receiver Amarri Jackson, defensive end Jarriett Buie and linebacker Terrence Royal. Two more former Bulls, quarterback Grant Gregory and receiver Huey Whittaker, were on the Storm roster this season.
