Barrington: Nothing unusual in Miami recruitment
Several prominent USF football players were recruited by the University of Miami out of high school, and junior linebacker Sam Barrington strongly considered the Hurricanes coming out of Jacksonville, taking an official visit to Coral Gables and surprising friends when he chose the Bulls.
In the wake of the scandal involving Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, who admitted to "thousands of impermissible benefits" in an investigative story from Yahoo! Sports, we asked Barrington on Thursday if there was anything unusual about his recruitment from Miami.
"Nothing was out of the ordinary. In my opinion, the University of Miami was a great program and a great choice. That's why I considered it as a school," Barrington said. "But nothing was out of the ordinary. It was a great program, and I hope for the best outcome for those guys."
USF plays host to Miami on Nov. 19 at Raymond James Stadium, having beaten the Hurricanes in overtime in Miami last season.
