Bartow OF Putnam commits to USF baseball
Buddy Putnam, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound senior outfielder from Bartow, said Wednesday that he has committed to play baseball at USF in 2011-12.
"I love to hit -- it was mainly my bat that got me recruited," said Putnam, who can play all nine positions on the field, but expects to get his first look at USF in the outfield.
Putnam, recruited to USF by new hitting coach Chris Heintz, said he committed to USF coach Lelo Prado on Tuesday, choosing the Bulls over offers from Mercer, Stetson and Florida Southern. Putnam is also Bartow's starting quarterback and is being recruited in football by Florida Atlantic -- Gardner-Webb in North Carolina wants him to play both sports -- but he said he's committed to play baseball in college.
Putnam was a third-team all-state selection as a sophomore, and made the Winter Haven News Chief's first-team All-Area team this spring. He played against current Bull Daniel Rockhold when he was at Lakeland. His sister, Courtney, is a softball player at Florida Gulf Coast College.
