Big day ahead: First, some Big East links ...

August

It's a huge day for USF at Big East media day in Rhode Island -- the Bulls might not come in atop the league's preseason poll, but they arguably have the league's best star power in attendance, with quarterback Matt Grothe and defensive end George Selvie as the conference's best known offensive and defensive players.

The unveiling of the preseason poll is less than an hour away, so I'll throw out some links first ...

-- Great day to be on Twitter.com -- naturally, you can follow this blog there at @gregauman, but today will have lots of tweets from @bigeastfb and from Grothe and Selvie at @usffootball. Nothing on Monday from @jimleavitt, but he'll probably join in as well.

-- Sporting News Today's Dave Curtis (on page 16) writes that the Big East is losing its reputation in college football, and says no school bears more of the blame than USF. "How is the progam not dominating the conference?" he asks. "The underachieving starts in recruiting and continues in the back half of the season." Curtis even goes so far as to suggest Leavitt is the problem -- "The next job change should be his."

-- Louisville Courier-Journal's Rick Bozich believes USF will come in third in this morning's media poll, behind Pittsburgh and Rutgers. I'll be surprised if West Virginia is as low as fourth ..

-- Cool football video on Big East's official site -- three minutes of highlights, with over-the-top music, so it comes off like a movie trailer ...

-- ESPN.com's "prestige rankings" put USF 87th nationally ... Connecticut and Rutgers are actually ranked lower.
