In the bigs: USF's Jeff Baisley called up by A's
Former USF standout Jeff Baisley has been called up to the major leagues by the Oakland A's, and the Times' Izzy Gould and Joey Knight got him on the phone Monday night to talk about his impending major-league debut.
Baisley, a 25-year-old third baseman, finished the minor-league season on a tear for the Class AAA Sacramento River Cats, getting hits in his last nine games to raise his season average to .298, with nine home runs and 44 RBIs. His twin brother Brian, a teammate at Land O'Lakes High and at USF, played well this season for Class A Staten Island Yankees of the New York-Penn League, hitting .336 with a combined 11 home runs and 65 RBIs between Staten Island and the South Atlantic League.
Jeff Baisley is the second USF alum in the bigs, joining Kansas City's Ross Gload. He's expected to make his debut tonight in Detroit.
