Hey, it works for the DVDs. Space in today's paper was tight, so not quite everything I filed for the daily USF notes made it in ... here's the rest. Sorry, no audio commentary or French subtitles.

TAMPA -- Despite another missed field goal in another close loss, USF coach Jim Leavitt said he’ll stick with sophomore Mike Benzer ... for now.

"We’re going to go with Benzer this week. This week," said Leavitt, who saw Benzer miss a 40-yard attempt in Friday’s 22-20 loss to Rutgers, leaving him 1-for-7 in his two years at USF.

All of Benzer’s misses have come from 40 yards or shorter, but Leavitt has stood by the kicker he benched after two games last season.

INJURY UPDATE: Linebacker Stephen Nicholas won’t be sidelined by the shoulder injury that took him briefly out of Friday’s game.

Leavitt said center Nick Capogna, who missed much of Friday’s game after wearing a cast on his left forearm last week, would be ready to play this week. His replacement, walk-on Ryan Schmidt, had a bad snap that pinned USF deep in its territory, setting up the deciding field goal for Rutgers.

"In hindsight, we should have played (Capogna) some more," Leavitt said. "(Schmidt) did okay. He needs to play better. Our whole line needs to play better, and I believe they will."

CLEBERT DONE: Defensive tackle Richard Clebert, one of the Bulls’ most experienced defensive linemen, will miss the rest of the season with a torn groin muscle, Leavitt said. Clebert, who played in USF’s first three games, should be eligible to received a medical redshirt for this season.

"We’re not planning on him playing," Leavitt said.

THIS AND THAT: Next week’s game at North Carolina has been announced as a noon kickoff, with national broadcast on ESPNU. ... With eight days to prepare for Connecticut, USF gave its players an extra day of rest Sunday. The Bulls don’t have their bye week for another three weeks. ... Leavitt said he’ll stick with walk-on Justin Teachey, who has improved USF’s net punting since taking over with a rugby-style sidestep two weeks ago. "I know it’s a lot better than it was," Leavitt said.
