Boca Ciega's Tamara Taylor headed to USF in 2013

It's been her plan all along, but former Boca Ciega guard Tamara Taylor, who first committed to USF in 2010, confirmed Thursday that she is committed to playing for the Bulls in 2013-14 after one more season at Gulf Coast Community College.

Taylor, a 5-foot-9 guard who averaged 11.3 points a game as a freshman at Gulf Coast, had signed with USF as part of the Class of 2011, but had to take a detour to Gulf Coast, which has been a pipeline for current Bulls guards Andrea and Andrell Smith, as well as center Caitlin Rowe. Taylor will be Gulf Coast's top returning scorer, and she led the team with 70 3-pointers, hitting 32 percent of her shots beyond the arc. In high school, Taylor led Boca Ciega to three straight state final fours, including the state championship game her senior year.

USF coach Jose Fernandez will have the opportunity for a huge 2013 recruiting class, with seven seniors on his roster next season -- the Smith twins, Rowe, guards Sasha Bernard and Kaneisha Saunders and forwards Tiffany Conner and Aleshia Flowers.
