Bowl projections: Where/if USF is going ...

Had USF lost last week at Cincinnati, you might not have found many bowl projections that included a 3-4 Bulls team in the postseason. But with the Bulls beating the Bearcats, the Bulls are 4-3 and needing only two wins in their remaining five games to be eligible for a sixth consecutive bowl appearance.

The pundits remain split on whether the Bulls will play in a bowl or not -- some have USF missing the cut, while others have the Bulls landing in some of the Big East's better bowls:

--'s Mark Schlabach and Andrea Adelson both have USF making a bowl, with Schlabach putting USF in St. Petersburg against SMU -- seems reasonable, if unappealing for fans -- and Adelson is optimistic about the Bulls, putting them in Charlotte for the Meineke Car Care Bowl against Clemson. (Adelson has Louisville-SMU for St. Pete)

--'s Tom Dienhart has USF playing in Birmingham against Ohio University, with the MAC filling in when the other conference slot can't be filled. He has Cincy-Southern Miss in St. Petersburg -- no complaints there.

-- Not sure how recent this is, but has perhaps the best bowl storyline, calling for Skip Holtz to face his old team with USF meeting East Carolina in St. Petersburg. If ECU can win against UCF this week, the Pirates might be on their way to a C-USA three-peat.

-- and do not have USF making a bowl. CBS has Rutgers returning to St. Pete to play Southern Miss, which seems unlikely; CFN has an appealing Cincinnati-UCF game in St. Petersburg, though I doubt the Knights go back-to-back at the Trop.

Do you think USF is headed to a bowl? Where do you think the Bulls will land?
