Brewer just misses Olympic cut in shot put
Former USF standout Chandra Brewer finished fourth Saturday night in the shot put competition at the U.S. Olympic Trials, falling short of a trip to Beijing by one spot as the top three qualified.
Brewer's initial throw of 59 feet, 2 inches was considerably longer than her best marks in qualifying, but New York's Gillian Camarena's first throw was 3.5 inches longer. Brewer still remained in third until former Florida standout Kristin Heaston's fourth of six throws, which moved her ahead of Brewer; Brewer couldn't improve her mark with her remaining throws.
