Bulls coaches mourn death of ECU assistant, 47

Roggeman Thomas "Rock" Roggeman, an assistant coach on Skip Holtz's East Carolina staff from 2005-09, died Monday after a yearlong battle with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He was 47 years old.

Roggeman spent much of the past year on medical leave from ECU as he was treated for the lymphoma, and his passing is significant not only for Holtz, but for the four ECU assistants now on his USF staff -- offensive coordinator Todd Fitch, offensive line coach Steve Shankweiler, defensive ends coach Vernon Hargreaves and defensive backs coach Rick Smith.

Holtz took a moment Monday night to remember Hoggeman on his page at, writing "Rock Roggeman lost his battle with cancer today. I am a better Person, Christian, Coach, Husband and Father for knowing Rock. R.I.P."

Here's the full story from ECU's official site and a good writeup from the Daily Reflector in Greenville.
