Bulls fall hard, drop out of both national polls

As was to be expected after a 27-point loss to a team that had lost to two unranked teams, USF dropped out of both national polls Sunday, earning enough votes to be an unofficial No. 29 in the USA Today coaches poll and No. 31 in the Associated Press Top 25.

The only two teams to drop out of the AP poll are (presumably) future Big East teams -- USF and TCU, which lost to SMU. West Virginia is again the only Big East team in the AP rankings, moving up to USF's old spot at No. 16. Florida (17th) and FSU (23rd) remain ranked among state teams.

How did voters handle the twisted triangle that is USF > Notre Dame > Pittsburgh > USF? The AP voters gave Notre Dame 24 vote-points, USF 22 and Pittsburgh just 1; the coaches gave USF 49 votes, with Notre Dame getting 13 and Pittsburgh 11. Yes, Pittsburgh has a worse record than USF, but hard to argue USF deserves a higher ranking after Thursday's game.
