Bulls get commitment from 250-pound Georgia TE

Five years ago, USF football picked up a tough, physical offensive standout from Buford, Ga., just north of Atlanta, and the Bulls have gone back to the perennial state power, getting a commitment Wednesday night from Buford tight end Mikey Bart.

"He's a great kid, a real hard worker, very physical," Buford coach Jess Simpson said Thursday. "He's had a dynamic skill set for us as a defensive end, very explosive, and he's been a dominant blocker as a tight end and H-back."

Bart checks in at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds, and his primary recruiter has been tight ends coach Peter Vaas, who loses three seniors from this year's team at the position in Evan Landi, Andreas Shields and Jeff Hawkins. Simpson said Bart chose the Bulls over offers from Syracuse and Central Florida, with other top schools like Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Ole Miss recruiting him hard as well.

"I think South Florida, from Day 1, has recruited him the hardest and done best job of pursuing him," said Simpson, who also coached current USF senior running back Demetris Murray.

You can check out Bart's Youtube highlight reel -- biggest plays are on the defensive side of the ball, but you see he's a physical player who can catch the ball as well.

Bart, who announced his commitment on Twitter, is USF's first tight end commitment for 2013 -- he's rated as a 3-star recruit by Rivals and Scout, the latter of which rates him as the nation's No. 33 tight end prospect for his class. He's a 2-star recruit according to 247 Sports. He's also the starting catcher on Buford's baseball team, which won a state title his sophomore year.

The Bulls will transition to a promising young group of tight ends in 2013 -- true freshman Sean Price (6-3, 240) has made a splash in the past month and is now tied with Landi for the position lead in receptions, and the Bulls will have a bigger role next season for current sophomore Mike McFarland (6-5, 243). Another big Georgia star, Tye Turner (6-3, 249) will be back as a sophomore after redshirting this season.
