Bulls get commitment from DeSoto RB Shaw
It's been a slow two months for USF recruiting as the Bulls find the best matches for their remaining scholarships, but the Bulls have picked up a new commitment from Marcus Shaw, a prolific running back from DeSoto County.
"He's very physical. He's fast but he runs between the tackles," said DeSoto County coach Gary Morton. "USF is close to home for him, and gives him the opportunity to play in a big conference.
Shaw is 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds and has put up ridiculous numbers in the past two years. He has rushed for 1,880 yards and 22 touchdowns through eight games this season, and rushed for more than 2,500 and 35 scores as a junior. Morton said Shaw had offers from Syracuse, Iowa State and Central Florida and was being recruited by Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi and Clemson, among others.
Shaw is the second running back to commit to USF for the 2010 class, joining Lake City Columbia's Tiger Powell. Shaw is rated as a three-star running back by both Scout.com and Rivals.com -- the latter ranks him as the nation's No. 13 all-purpose back and as the No. 89 overall prospect in Florida. The only other Bulls commitment to rank in Rivals' top 100 for the state is Bradenton quarterback Brion Carnes, who is No. 52.
