Catching on: Hopkins emerging in bigger role
One surprise success story in USF's difficult 2-3 start has been junior receiver Derrick Hopkins, whose career receptions until this season had all come on a single drive against Florida A&M last fall. After focusing his time and energy on becoming a better pass-catcher, he's earned his first start, caught his first touchdown and become a reliable part of the Bulls offense. As USF tries to end a three-game losing streak, one weapon is a 5-foot-5 track standout tough enough to go across the middle on third and long.
