Coach: DB Robbins still firm to sign with USF
(2:30 p.m. update: We got a text back from Robbins ... asked if his coach's comments about his being firm in his commitment to USF were true, he texted back "NA." So we'll just wait and see on Wednesday ...)
We're in the final 48 hours before national signing day on Wednesday, and as USF works to hold on with its existing commitments, there's good news from Miami: Southridge coach Lamont Green says he believes defensive back Lamar Robbins is firm in his commitment to the Bulls.
"I'm pretty sure now that he is going to go to South Florida. All indications point that way," Green said. "I haven't heard anything different from speaking to him as of this morning. This morning, it was all South Florida."
The four-star defensive back committed to the Bulls over a strong set of finalists, including Oklahoma, Louisville and West Virginia, and the Cardinals were making a push to try to flip him to their class. Green said he has a bag full of evidence that suggests Robbins will be signing with USF at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Southridge's signing-day ceremony.
"I just picked up four hats and a couple of T-shirts for his family. All South Florida," Green said.
In other updates Monday ...
-- Miami Northwestern running back Darius Tice enjoyed his visit to USF and has an offer from the Bulls, and will be deciding between USF and Cincinnati, perhaps as early as tonight, Northwestern assistant coach Darryl Elmore said Monday morning. Tice looks to be the last option for USF at running back after DeLand star JoJo Kemp chose Kentucky over the weekend.
