Day 2 mocks: Just USF's Allen in 2nd round?

I like the new three-day format of the NFL draft -- Thursday night seemed to go by fast, and I like the chance to step back and re-evaluate things before the second round. In the past, the difference between the 32nd and 33rd picks was maybe 15 minutes -- now it's 19 hours, so there's a little more prestige to being a first-round pick because of that.

Anyway, all the pundits have time to throw together a mock second round, with better understanding of team's needs and who is available. USF's only had one second-rounder in its existence (linebacker Kawika Mitchell in 2003) so it will be an accomplishment if safety Nate Allen does in fact go in the second round.

The first four national writers I'm linking to agree that Allen will be picked in the second round, but they also agree that receiver Carlton Mitchell and cornerback Jerome Murphy won't be in there. It's a soft fall to the third round, just minutes later, but lingering to the fourth round would need another long night waiting for your name to be called.

--'s Pat Kirwan has Allen going 49th to the 49ers. He has the Bucs getting USC defensive end Everson Griffen and Illinois receiver Arrelious Benn.

--'s Don Banks puts Allen 59th to the Cowboys, where he'd be reunited with cornerback Mike Jenkins. Banks gives the Bucs Griffen as well, along with Florida safety Major Wright.

--'s Pete Prisco has Allen going 42nd to the Bucs, who he has taking Griffen with their first second-round pick.

--'s Chris Steuber, like Kirwan, has Allen matched with the 49ers at No. 49. He has the Bucs taking Benn and Griffen, though with the opposite picks as Kirwan. He also has USF's Mitchell going to the Rams with the top pick in the third round, but does not have Murphy in his third round.

-- OK, I'll add a fifth mock --'s R.J. White has Allen going 37th to the Eagles, and has Murphy going to the Ravens at No. 57. He, too, has the Bucs taking Benn and then USC safety Taylor Mays, which would be a solid get for the No. 42 pick.

-- And a sixth --'s mock draft has Allen going right away at No. 34 to the Vikings, with Murphy also in the second round, joining him with the Vikings at No. 62. He has the Bucs taking Florida defensive end Carlos Dunlap, then Benn.
