Doug Williams interviews for USF head football coaching job

Doug Williams interviewed for South Florida's head football coaching job Tuesday.

Williams, the Bucs pro personnel director, interviewed with a search committee hired by USF for 2 1/2 hours in Orlando.

The Bulls attraction to Williams is obvious. A first-round draft pick by the Bucs, Williams has a long association with the Tampa Bay community. He was a Super Bowl MVP with the Washington Redskins and the first African American quarterback to win an NFL title.

He coached at Grambling State from 1998-2003, compiling a 52-18 record and winning three Southwest Athletic Conference titles.

Last month, Williams expressed an interest to return to the sidelines by interviewing for the Southern University head coaching job. But he opted to sign a 1-year contract to return as the Bucs' pro personnel director.
