Draft links: Pierre-Paul polarizing for pundits
So much to share today -- you can get a real sense of what a polarizing prospect USF defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been, just by a look at CBSsports.com.
In one corner, you have writer Pete Prisco, who thinks very highly of Pierre-Paul: "If this kid isn't a double-digit sack player in two years, I will be shocked. If he isn't a perennial Pro Bowl player for the next 10 years, it will be a big surprise."
Another writer, Rob Rang, who writes for CBS and NFLdraftscout.com, has the opposite take, writing that some team will "severely reach" in drafting Pierre-Paul. There are people you don't want to be compared to this week, and Vernon Gholston is high on the list.
-- Still more mock drafts: ProFootballWeekly.com's has Pierre-Paul down at No. 27 to Dallas, and curiously, has a Skip Holtz-coached lineman, Linval Joseph, at No. 29. ... More polarization: National Football Post's Wes Bunting believes the Eagles will trade up to No. 10 to get Pierre-Paul.
-- NFL.com's Gil Brandt doesn't do mock drafts, but he ranks prospects in 10 tiers of 10 players each, and clearly likes USF's kids. His latest offering bumps Pierre-Paul up into his top 10, jumps Nate Allen up into the 40s, introduces Carlton Mitchell (in the 60s) and has Jerome Murphy dropping into the 60s.
-- Fanhouse.com's Brett McMurphy has a feature on USF quarterback and draft hopeful Matt Grothe.
-- SI.com's Don Banks is sticking with Pierre-Paul going No. 8 to Oakland, and says the NFL Network's Mike Mayock is thinking the same thing. Mayock is saving his mock draft for tonight, just before the draft.
