ECU players talk about Holtz leaving on Twitter
ECU athletic director Terry Holland posted an online note trying to make a case that Skip Holtz hadn't accepted an offer to become USF's coach, but the Pirates players are giving their own confirmation, posting comments to Twitter.com about Holtz's 3 p.m. meeting with his players.
"Holtz gone," wrote running back Norman Whitley, whose Twitter page can be seen here.
Later, he writes: "I can't believe he walked out like that.... That pissed me off" and "I got a mad taste in my mouth" ... then "My heart is in a place that no sports writer or anyone can feel right now.... we are going to grow from this."
Still no official word from USF, but everything I'm hearing says the silence on both ends was to allow Holtz to address his players without too much getting out in the public first.
Fullback/tight end Kevin Gidrey tweeted: "Holtz skipped out. ...senior yr might get wild."
And former ECU receiver Phillip Henry: "Holtz goin to South Florida...."
