Ex-Bulls QB Voss lands at Fort Scott
After two years away from football, former USF quarterback Alton Voss is getting a fresh start at Fort Scott Community College, the same Kansas junior-college power that sent standouts Jason Pierre-Paul and Jacquian Williams to the Bulls.
Voss, who redshirted his only season with the Bulls in 2007, left the program in summer 2008 and tried last year to return the Bulls, even as a walk-on, but that was derailed by injuries, including surgery for a sports hernia. A three-star recruit coming out of New Port Richey's Gulf High, Voss has yet to play a down of college football, but has only two years of eligibility left in his five-year window.
He's optimistic he'll have a shot at the starting job at Fort Scott, where last year's starter, former Boston College star Dominique Davis, will be the starter at East Carolina this fall. Fort Scott is prolific in sending its players to four-year colleges -- 27 Greyhounds signed national letters of intent in February.
