Ex-USF RB Ford arrested, charged with battery
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrest report, 31-year-old Berneta Bean of Sarasota, who identified herself as an "on and off" girlfriend of Ford and mother to two children by him, told police that Ford pushed her in the chest and hit her in the face several times with an open hand during an argument about their children. Bean told police that when she went outside to call 911, Ford grabbed the phone from her hand and threw it toward her house. She then left in her car with her children, according to the report.
Ford, 23, was arrested at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday and placed on supervised release with certain conditions. Ford must have no contact with Bean, must not go within 1,000 feet of her home and will have only supervised visitation with the children, according to the Sheriff's Office. He also is allowed no alcohol or drugs as a condition of his release and may be randomly tested.
Ford was dismissed from USF's team in March for an undisclosed violation of team rules. Ford would have been a senior this fall, and rushed for a USF bowl-record 207 yards in his final game, USF's win against Northern Illinois in the International Bowl in Toronto in January.
Ford has been arrested several times before, all relating to driving without a valid license, most recently in Hillsborough County on April 5. It's unknown what Ford will do next in his football career -- he could transfer to a Division II school or attempt to enter the professional football ranks. Ford did not return a call seeking comment Tuesday afternoon.
