Fifth Third to dedicate branch in Selmon's name
Former USF athletic director and Bucs Hall of Famer Lee Roy Selmon, who died in September, will have his name on another Tampa building, as Fifth Third Bank on Thursday will dedicate a new branch near USF's campus as the Lee Roy Selmon Banking Center.
The location on Fowler Avenue at University Mall will be dedicated at a ceremony attended by family members including Selmon's wife Claybra, as well as USF President Judy Genshaft and Fifth Third's president in the Tampa Bay market, Brian Lamb, a former USF basketball player.
"Lee Roy Selmon's leadership as a Fifth Third Bank board member was instrumental in the opening of this location," Lamb said in a statement when the location opened its doors last month. "He was a pillar of our bank and our community, and we intend to commemorate his legacy by naming this new location the Lee Roy Selmon Banking Center."
USF's athletic department renamed its main facility on campus as the Lee Roy Selmon Athletic Center in September as a tribute to the former athletic director, who continued to work with the Bulls as the president of the USF Foundation Partnership for Athletics, raising funds through donations for USF athletics to help a massive facilities upgrade that has recently included new stadiums for baseball, softball and soccer, as well as a new practice facilities for football and basketball.
