Find a rack: Times' college football preview today
With USF's season opener less than a week away, Sunday has the Times' college football preview section included. It's overwhelmed, perhaps, by the Times' great RNC coverage (and Isaac, too), but if you're not a subscriber and live locally, it's a great day to find a copy of the Times.
You can find our USF preview online as well -- our main story looks at the challenge of going from one confrence win to one conference title in a single year. Looking back over the last decade, 87 teams in the BCS automatic qualifier leagues have had one or zero conference wins, and none has won its conference crown and played in a BCS bowl game the next year. Illinois made the Rose Bowl after the 2007 season when Ohio State played in the national championship, and UConn won a share of the Big East crown from a single win that same year. It's not easy getting out of the cellar -- nearly half the time, those one-win teams have zero or one conference wins the next year as well. Skip Holtz says his team has already made huge strides off the field.
Our preseason notebook looks at USF's glowing-green new football locker room, even if Twitter critics said it looks like "Japanese phone booths in 1985." And we have a pronunciation guide, in case you can't navigate the Gudmundssons and Ciabattis and Djubegovics of USF football. And here's our quick positional preview and schedule for 2012, breaking down the season ahead for the Bulls.
