Free admission for baseball, softball grand openings

With USF unveiling its new softball stadium tonight and playing its first game in the new baseball stadium on Friday, the Bulls are making admission free for both sports this weekend. The stadiums are nearly complete, with both teams opening their new homes with the final touches of construction still going on around them for the next few weeks.

We'll be at both games to write about the start of a new era in softball and baseball -- I'm curious to see how many fans will turn out. Both stadiums have room for significantly more than their seatback counts, with walking areas and outdoor pavilions around the field. We invite you to tell us about your excitement about the new venues, and later this weekend, about your experiences in the new parks.

-- The excitement surrounding the spring sports comes as both basketball teams are closing out long, disappointing seasons. The latest loss saw USF's women up by 17 points in the second half, only to see Rutgers rally, holding the Bulls to 10 points in the final 17 minutes for a 52-46 win that drops USF to 1-13 in the Big East.
