Full disclosure: My AP Top 25 ballot

4

September

Filling out an AP Top 25 ballot after the opening week of the season isn't easy, in that your poll must blend your initial preseason poll with the first week's results -- it's a week of correction and adjustment. I had Alabama at No. 4 in my preseason poll, but the Tide's convincing win against Michigan put to rest much of my concerns about the talent they lost to the NFL Draft, with strong play at key positions with new starters. I'd considered dropping LSU from No. 1 when they lost Tyrann Mathieu, and after watching USC destroy Hawaii, I've moved the Tigers down to third.

Remember, this is a Week 1 poll, so this is reviewing a movie (at least 25, actually)and giving it a certain number of stars after watching the first 15 minutes. I was high on Wisconsin, putting them No. 6 in my preseason poll, but the Badgers barely beat Northern Iowa. I had Michigan State relatively low at No. 17, but gave them a big bump after being Boise State. I was tempted to keep Boise in the poll, having taken a close loss at a ranked opponent, but for now, they're on the outside looking in. ... As always, I welcome your comments and criticisms ...
