Gainesville corner Bivins latest to commit to Bulls

For the second time in as many days, USF picked up a key commitment from right up the I-75 corridor Saturday night as Gainesville cornerback Chris Bivins said he'll play for the Bulls in 2012, just as North Marion tight end Sean Price did a day earlier.

"After I did everything with the coaches, had some experience with the coaching staff to see how they did things, everything just felt good," said Bivins, who committed during Saturday's "SuperBull" recruiting event at Raymond James Stadium.

Bivins, 5-foot-11 and 169 pounds, said he is committed to USF but will still take official visits to the other schools in his top five -- N.C. State, Arkansas, Kentucky and Illinois. He will graduate in December and can early-enroll at USF for spring 2012, getting a head start on his college transition.

Asked for his strengths as a cornerback, Bivins said "my covering ability has gotten better off the ball. I've worked on that a lot. I feel like I can tackle better than most DBs. I don't get the big head or anything. DB is one of the hardest positions on the field because you have so many mental things."

His twin sister Kayla committed to USF earlier this week, and Chris said his sister's decision was a factor in reinforcing to him that USF was his best option. "We've been together all our lives. It would be hard for us to separate," he said. "I love my sister to death. I've got to be her big brother and not let anything happen to her. She's older than me, but I still think of myself as her big brother."

Bivins is rated a three-star recruit by both and -- Scout has him as the nation's No. 55 cornerback, while Rivals has him rated No. 33 at his position. The defensive secondary has been a big part of USF's 2012 recruiting, with four of the Bulls' six commitments -- Bivins, St. Petersburg safety Rayshawn Jenkins, Georgia corner D.J. White and Pensacola athlete Jalen Spencer.
