Good luck: Eriksen eats grapes, ponders thong
At least USF softball coach Ken Eriksen has a sense of humor about his team's 18-19 record, and especially the way the Bulls have struggled immediately after doing "The Ken Eriksen Show" with host Joel Godett.
Godett has not been good to the Bulls, who had a perfect game thrown against them after one of his appearances, then was swept by Notre Dame last weekend, held to five hits in three games after he taped another show last week.
Now, he's trying to help -- this week's video has he and Eriksen running through all sorts of superstitions, trying to get the Bulls back on track, if only for his own safety. It doesn't get better than Eriksen eating good-luck grapes out of a Ziploc bag while Godett suggests the Jason Giambi cure-all: the golden thong. "Maybe. Whatever it takes," Eriksen says with a smile.
If the Bulls fare well at Providence this weekend, we don't necessarily want to know what else Eriksen did to right the ship. The Friars are 13-20, so it might not take animal sacrifice, but just to be safe, fair warning to the fine people of Rhode Island and their poultry.
-- We told you football tickets for the USF-Florida game in September will be tough to come by, but USF is selling individual tickets for next week's Bulls-Gators baseball game at Red McEwen Field. The Gators are No. 7 in the latest Baseball America rankings, so it's a big opportunity for the surging Bulls.
