Gransberry signs with NBDL's Colorado 14ers
We take a quick break from the signing-day madness for some basketball news: Former USF center Kentrell Gransberry, who started his pro career with a short stint in France last fall, has signed with the Colorado 14ers of the NBA Development League and could make his debut tonight.
"I'm excited," said Gransberry, bracing for upcoming snow in Colorado. "You get a chance to play, to get a look at a contract if any of the NBA guys get hurt. They told me to be ready to play tonight, so we'll see."
Gransberry, who led the Big East in rebounding in each of the past two seasons, will suit up for the 14ers' game tonight against the Austin Toros. Haven't checked every roster, but I believe he's the only USF player in the NBDL. Gransberry played five games with a professional team in Le Havre, France, last fall before returning to the United States.
The 14ers, by the way, are so named for the large number of mountains in Colorado that exceed 14,000 feet in altitude. I had to look it up, so don't feel bad if you were thinking it was some gold-rush reference or something ...
