Grothe gets Big East honors for 3rd time
For the third time in seven games, USF quarterback Matt Grothe has been honored as the Big East Offensive Player of the Week. Grothe passed for 248 yards and three touchdowns in USF's 45-13 win against Syracuse on Saturday, rushing for a team-high 72 yards and another score.
Grothe's effort was good enough to edge strong rushing performances from Pittsburgh's LeSean McCoy (156 yards, 3 TDs) and Louisville's Victor Anderson (161 yards, TD). Grothe was previously honored for his games in wins against Central Florida and N.C. State; no other offensive player in the Big East has won the honor more than once this season. Pittsburgh linebacker Scott McKillop has won defensive honors three times.
