Grothe gets Big East offensive honors
USF quarterback Matt Grothe has earned Big East Offensive Player of the Week honors after passing for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulls' 31-24 overtime win at Central Florida.
Grothe also rushed for a game-high 54 yards, giving him 400 yards of total offense, and he provided the winning score, hitting receiver Taurus Johnson for a 25-yard touchdown in overtime.
Grothe now owns three of the top four total-offense games in USF history -- Saturday's game ranks third. He had 457 yards last season against Cincinnati and had 409 against Syracuse as a freshman. Marquel Blackwell is second on the list with a 420-yard game against Western Kentucky in 2000.
Grothe won the Big East's weekly honors twice as a freshman for games against UCF and Syracuse.
