Guard Hermann out 4 weeks with broken foot

Hermann Right guard Zach Hermann, who has started every  game since the start of last season, will miss at least four weeks after breaking a bone in his left foot during Monday night's practice.

Hermann, a sophomore from East Lake, was not putting weight on his foot at the end of Monday's practice. In his absence, the Bulls are likely to insert sophomore Jake Sims at tackle and slide left tackle Ryan Schmidt to guard, where he started all of last season.

It's the fourth injury to impact USF's running game, as running backs Mike Ford and Ben Williams have been sidelined with ankle injuries, as has tight end Trent Pupello. Hermann's absence will make it more of a challenge for USF in Friday's home game against No. 13 Kansas.

No specific timetable was given for his return, but the Bulls have games in each of the next four weeks, with the first off-week coming after USF's Oct. 2 home game against Pittsburgh. Hermann would have more than six weeks from the injury to return for the Bulls' Oct. 18 game against Syracuse.
