Guard Schmidt, cut by Titans, lands with Bucs
Former USF offensive lineman Ryan Schmidt, cut by the Tennessee Titans this week, has signed with the Bucs, where he joins former teammates Marc Dile and Jarriett Buie trying to make the Tampa Bay roster.
The Bucs brought Schmidt in one day after they opened camp, with the Boca Raton native taking the roster spot of Maurice Miller, who was cut.
Funny quote from Bucs coach Raheem Morris, who like Schmidt spent a season at Kansas State before coming to Tampa.
"Funny story about Ryan Schmidt – when I first went to Kansas State, we kind of ran him out of Kansas State, I guess, and he ended up at South Florida and became a pro prospect," Morris said. "We were really good coaches up at Kansas State, I guess, and lost a pro prospect. We could have had somebody else blocking for [Josh Freeman] and all the other guys we had there. Now I have to make it up and pick him up at Tampa."
