Gunsby takes rest of spring off for academics
Lots of notes to come from USF's practice, but Skip Holtz did say that freshman quarterback Jamius Gunsby came to him Monday and asked for time away from practice to focus on his academics. Holtz said Gunsby has dug himself a big hole in the classroom and needs to focus fully on finishing the spring semester with the hopes of keeping him eligible for the fall.
With Gunsby out, that means more reps for true freshman Matt Floyd, who has only been on campus three months but now finds himself in position to be USF's No. 3 quarterback behind starter B.J. Daniels and sophomore Bobby Eveld. The academic concerns put Gunsby's future -- as a Bull, as a quarterback -- up in the air heading into the offseason.
More details and other notes coming tonight. ...
