At the half, Bulls up 38-24 on Orange
It's not 19 points, but USF has a solid 38-24 lead on Syracuse at halftime after the Orange finished the half on a 7-2 run.
Telling little stretch in the final minute, as Syracuse had scored five straight to cut USF's lead to five points with 31 seconds left, with point guard Chris Howard picking up a costly third foul. So the thought is to hold for the last shot, and Syracuse is hard into the full-court press.
The Bulls beat the press, and Dominique Jones has a wide-open 3-pointer, so he takes it, missing. Syracuse gets the rebound, and as quickly as a fan can yell "Why would you shoot that?" Jones has a backcourt steal and a lay-up, giving him 17 first-half points. Syracuse got the last points on an alley-oop to Rick Jackson with 0:01 on the clock.
Stan Heath put Kentrell Gransberry on the bench for the final two minutes or so, something small that could pay off in terms of Gransberry having more energy at the end of the game. Howard picking up a third foul will limit his minutes in the first parts of the second half, which could bring Syracuse's Jonny Flynn back into the game. Howard had held him scoreless until the final minute of the first half.
