From Herd to Bulls: Marshall grad joins staff as GA
USF coach Skip Holtz has made another addition to his staff, with former Marshall defensive back D.J. Wingate joining as the Bulls' defensive graduate assistant for the 2012 season.
Wingate, who worked with the Bulls as a volunteer assistant last fall, played under former USF defensive coordinator Mark Snyder at Marshall from 2007-09. He takes over for former Bulls defensive back Glenn Davis, who left after the 2011 season to become the defensive backs coach at I-AA Youngstown State.
Wingate is from Daytona Beach and helped Mainland High to the 2004 state championship. He totaled 45 tackles in his four seasons at Marshall, and started his coaching work at Marshall in the spring of 2011. Read more about his coaching aspirations in this story from the Huntington Herald-Dispatch.
