Holtz says RB Lamar 'definitely' playing at Nevada
The ankle injury suffered by running back Marcus Shaw in Saturday's opener is significant enough that USF coach Skip Holtz said Wednesday morning that senior Lindsey Lamar, who the Bulls had planned on redshirting this season, will "definitely" play Saturday at Nevada, giving the Bulls depth at a key position.
Holtz, speaking on WDAE 620-AM with the Times' Rick Stroud and Tom Jones, said that Lamar was excited about the chance to play this season, though on Saturday the coach had said that redshirting this season was Lamar's decision. Until Shaw is healthy, he's in position to be USF's No. 2 running back behind starter Demetris Murray, and he could return to his role as one of USF's primary kickoff returners.
We'll have more after Holtz speaks to reporers following Wednesday's morning practice.
