Holtz shoots 99 in opening round in Tahoe
(UPDATE: Since the completion of Holtz's round Friday in Lake Tahoe, the leaderboard on the tournament's official site has been amended to show Holtz shooting a 99 in his opening round. This post has been updated to reflect that.)
The positive spin, of course, is that you can see Skip Holtz obviously hasn't been wasting too much of his offseason playing golf.
Holtz, playing in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe, had a promising start Friday morning, getting a par on the second hole and then a birdie for a brief moment atop the leaderboard. He struggled the rest of the way, finishing with a 27-over-par 99 and standing near the bottom of the 82-player field with a Stableford score of minus-14.
Holtz can proudly say he's ahead of NBA great Charles Barkley, but he's also seven points behind Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain. Defending champion Jack Wagner is tied for the lead with pitcher Mark Mulder. Here's the full leaderboard, as well as Holtz's round.
