Hoops? Point guard Haynes commits to Bulls

Perhaps I'm just posting this to get to my 15th blog of the day -- remember this morning, when we were coming up on 50,000 comments? -- but amid all this football talk, there's some basketball news, too.

USF coach Stan Heath, who lost two guards to midseason transfers, has picked up an oral commitment from Shedrick "Showtime" Haynes, a 6-foot point guard from Sarasota who is playing at Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania.

"It was close to home, it's the Big East, and they need point guards to play right away," said Haynes, who played last season at Manatee Community College in Bradenton.

Haynes, who said he chose USF over scholarship offers from West Virginia, Temple and Houston, played at Booker High, where he played football and basketball with USF safety Mistral Raymond. Heath, who had sophomore Justin Leemow and freshman Jordan Dumars leave the program in the past month, has two remaining scholarships for the spring signing period.
