Hoops recruit Clanton picks UCF over Bulls
Keith Clanton, the 6-foot-8 power forward from Orlando who was a top target of Stan Heath's recruiting efforts, has chosen Central Florida over USF, according to his high school coach.
His coach at Orlando Christian Prep, former USF guard Reggie Kohn, confirmed that Clanton will sign with UCF. He announced his decision at a news conference in Orlando at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
"The only thing he said was that it was where he felt most comfortable for the next four years," Kohn said by phone. "He put the hat on an had a big smile, so he's excited about his decision. I think it was tough for him, in that he had two great schools, two great staffs he loved, but just went with the one he was more comfortable with."
USF has signed guards Jordan Dumars and Shaun Noriega in the early signing period, and Heath has said adding a frontcourt player is a priority for the rest of his class. USF has three scholarships remaining for use this spring -- the early signing period ends today, with the next signing period starting April 15.
