If basketball schools leave, where does the Big East stand?

The basketball-centric Catholic schools in the Big East appear to be headed out of the league. Where does that leave the remaining members? USF, Connecticut, Cincinnati and Temple would be the only current schools committed to the league in the future. Pittsburgh and Syracuse are finished after this school year and Rutgers, Louisville and Notre Dame are expected to play through the 2013-14 school year, though Notre Dame, at least ,still is negotiating its exit date.

UCF, Houston, Memphis and SMU are scheduled to join for all sports next year. Boise State and San Diego State also are scheduled to join for football next year. Tulane in all sports and East Carolina football are on board for 2014, and Navy is expected to join for football in 2015. Will any of those schools bail out?

If the Catholic schools leave and the incoming schools stick with the plan, "Big East" basketball could be at nine teams for 2014-15: USF, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Temple. UCF. Houston, Memphis, SMU and Tulane.
