IMG's Akol watches USF hoops finale
As USF finished its season with a 67-60 loss to No. 19 Notre Dame on Saturday night, a key Bulls recruit watched from the front row behind the USF bench.
Teeng Akol, a 6-foot-10 center from IMG Academy in Bradenton who is strongly considering a scholarship offer from the Bulls, was in attendance, along with his close friend, Marial Dhal, a 7-foot-3 center now at Hillsborough Community College who was his teammate last season at Our Savior New American High in New York. Dhal is a potential 2009 recruit who redshirted this season at HCC -- as a teammate of USF recruit Keith Brumbaugh -- so he could add weight to his frame. He'll play next season for Derrick Worrels at HCC and will have three years of eligibility wherever he signs.
Another Bulls recruit, Chicago center Steve Goins, was previously scheduled to visit this weekend but apparently did not; we'll get an update on him as soon as we can and give an update on when he might come in to visit USF.
USF coach Stan Heath was in attendance at the state junior college tournament in Lakeland this week, and while we don't know which players he was watching, the tournament was won by Chipola College, which has power forward Gary Flowers, one of the top unsigned junior college prospects, who has USF among the schools he's considering.
